Independent Painting Weekends and Coloured Pencil Masterclasses.
Down on the Farm!
I am running two “plein air” drawing/painting weekends at Maisebrooke Farm, Shipmeadow.
Saturday 28th/ Sunday 29th May
Saturday 30th September/ Sunday 1st October
This is a family-run small holding between Bungay and Beccles. In addition to a busy farm shop, they have ducks, geese, chickens, wild boar, goat, pigs and horses on site and there is a team of heavy horses just across the road. I’ve drawn and painted there on several occasions – including a weekend “Painting Animals From Life” weekend course that I ran there in 2015. I’m delighted to be returning this year. There is ample space for sketching and painting directly from the livestock and there is a generous indoor space for working out of the sun or in case of inclement weather. There is plenty of off-road parking.
There are limited spaces available so that I can give plenty of time to each participant. Each day will be directed and will include demonstrations as well as practical tips and techniques for working with “live” subjects. You’ll have the opportunity to make loads of sketches and you will also be able to take reference photos for further development when you get back home. Being at either end of the summer, the late spring and early autumn weekends will each offer a quite different view of the local, rolling landscape. The sessions are suitable for beginners as well as more experienced artists and you are free to use your favourite art media. To keep costs at a minimum, bring your own painting/ drawing kit and a packed lunch or snacks. Tea/coffee and biscuits are provided throughout each day.
10.00 am to 4.00 pm each day. £90 per person per weekend (£50 for a single day). A non-refundable deposit of £25 per day is payable on confirmation of booking with the balance payable one week before the start of the first day.
By the Sea!
Following a fantastic “plein air” painting course at Walberswick last summer, I’m delighted to be back with a “plein air” painting weekend based at Walberswick Village Hall.
Saturday 29th/ Sunday 30th July
Wherever you turn, Walberswick offers wonderful subjects for painting. The unique old fishing huts, the harbour and famous rowing boat ferry, a picturesque village green, cottages, dunes and a wide sky – all within a very short walking distance – make this a unique location for painting and drawing. It is no co-incidence that many famous artists have succumbed to the unique light and charms of this unspoilt location. Based at the very well appointed Village Hall, all potential locations are just minutes away. I’ve painted here on many occasions and featured the harbour as a painting location in my episode of “Fraser and Friends” shown on the Painting and Drawing Channel and available on Youtube.
10.00 am to 4.00 pm each day. £100 per person per weekend (£55 for a single day). A non-refundable deposit of £25 per day is payable on confirmation of booking with the balance payable one week before the start of the first day.

Harleston and Waveney
Open Studios in 2017 will be a little later than the last couple of years. We are all open for the last weekend of June (24th/25th) and the first two weekends of July (1st/2nd and 8th/9th). I became Chair of the group at the last AGM and I’m very pleased that we will be launching a completely revised programme/brochure for 2017. Designed to include all our 2017 exhibition as well as the Trail details, the new booklet format is even easier to read and more robust than the previous folded leaflets. The revised map and artist details will make finding your way around the studios even easier. Copies are now available and will find their way out to our regular distributors over the next few weeks.
This year, rather than a taster exhibition, we are holding a pre-Trail Spring Show at The Old KIng’s Head in Brockdish from 2nd June to 4th June. The show is free and open during all of the KIng’s Head’s opening hours (closed on Mondays). There is a special “Meet the Artists” event at The Old KIng’s Head this coming Sunday – 7th May – from 3.00 to 6.00 pm. You are warmly invited to come along to meet us.
I’ll be demonstrating and leading drawing sessions at ArtWaves, an art festival in Bridlington over the weekend of 13th and 14th May. Full festival details here.
I’m leading an “Observational Drawing” workshop day at The Old School Studio, Whittlesford, Cambridge on Wednesday 17th May. This is my first visit to this very busy art centre run by artist Leslie Rumble. I’ll be returning for a coloured pencil workshop on 4th November. Full details of the Old School Studio programme here.
