Beyond the Image Gallery

5th August 2020 By Genevieve Rudd

Established in 2005, the gallery is a not-for-profit organisation run by a group of like-minded photographers who exhibit their own work through quarterly themed exhibitions. The gallery space also allows the group to give something back to the community in the form of guest exhibitions in any media, photo-shoots and courses.

Situated on the beautiful Thornham, a visit to the gallery can be combined with all that the estate has to offer, including 12 miles of woodland walks.

CraftCo

2nd March 2020 By Genevieve Rudd

CRAFTCO is an outlet for contemporary crafts and applied arts from East Anglia, with changing exhibitions in our upstairs gallery.

The Great Eastern Craft Co-operative, or CRAFTCO for short, began in 1987 when ten local craftspeople formed a co-operative and opened a shop and gallery in Southwold Market Place. Five years later they bought a house in the High Street, originally a forge, which is now CRAFTCO.

With about 100 associate members, a core group runs and organises the shop. We meet monthly to discuss co-op business and consider newly submitted work. We are always interested in encouraging new makers. Our aim is to provide a permanent showcase for contemporary applied arts from East Anglia. Come and see our unique prints, ceramics, jewellery, textiles and toys. If you are interested in ordering any item, please phone 01502 723211 during opening hours.

Great Yarmouth Arts Festival

12th February 2020 By Genevieve Rudd

The Arts Festival grew out of an idea of trying to raise money for the Great Yarmouth Minster Preservation Trust but, at the first meeting with a group of artists, one of them said “You will not make money out of art”. Nevertheless, plans expanded to include not only visual art but music, theatre, films and heritage. The aims were to encourage people to develop an interest in art in all its forms and to take an active part in them. We want to show what remarkable talent exists in the Borough, to bring the various communities together, for the local population to develop a sense of pride in their town, to raise the aspirations of the young and to encourage more visitors to the town.

The first Festival was held in September 2012 and lasted 3 three weeks. In 2014 we moved to the beginning of June and reduced the length to ten days. We also started a Carnival procession which has grown in size and colour each year.

The Arts Festival belongs to the local people and we are very grateful to the many volunteers who work tirelessly to put it on. We are also very grateful to the sponsors and Great Yarmouth Borough Council who help us financially, with gifts in kind and with advice.

Cut Editions

6th January 2020 By Genevieve Rudd

Cut Editions

Cut Editions is a silk-screen printmaking workshop specialising in the production of limited edition original prints.

Our aim is to collaborate with fine art practitioners and designers who wish to work in print but may not have the facilities or technical knowledge to do so. We can make editions for artists, collaborate with them in the making of their editions, or they may prefer to book time in the studio and make work with a minimal amount of assistance from us. We give as much or as little help and advice as required.

Established in 2017 by Ni and Ben Gooding, the studio is situated on the ground floor of the prestigious Cut Arts centre, in Halesworth, Suffolk.
