Arts & Eats at The Fen
On Wednesday July 31st, between 2.30 & 4.30pm, Simon and Judith Raven invite you to an exploratory and discursive afternoon at their home (2 Fen Cottages – IP19 9NF) on the edge of Dunwich Forest, just off the Blythburgh to Westleton Road between the Walberswick and Dunwich turnings.
Over the years, Simon has added strange ‘assemblages’ to the garden which he characterises as “ideas in search of an artist”. Whether or not this is a fitting description is for the visitor to decide. Now there are well over 60 such ‘objets’. And that’s not all! In amongst the home-grown pieces there is a collection of grown-up ART featuring local regional creatives as well as several by a local boy “who’s done exceptionally good”. But who is this mystery person?
We suggest that you aim to arrive as close to 2.30pm as possible so that you have time to wander (and wonder?) before sitting down to share your thoughts and opinions, especially answers to the essential question – “yes, but is it art?”. Simon describes himself as a ‘creative bodger’ rather than an artist so he’s intrigued to discover how others might view his creations!
Refreshments will be available from about 3pm onwards. Please book below – members £6 / non-members £8 / children free. No dogs please – we have our own terrier and the garden doesn’t have secure boundaries!
We live very much ‘off road’. Sat navs tend to identify our track as Dunwich Road. It isn’t – it’s a sandy track leading off along the edge of a field and over several cattle grids down through heathland for about 200 yards. Please drive carefully (especially over the last hump) and park sensibly when you finally arrive at our ‘encampment’.
Contact Simon at simon@thefen.org if you need any further information. If you get lost trying to find us, please phone Simon on 07748132558.
We can only manage a maximum of 24 adults so you are advised to book early – the website will not take bookings beyond this number.
