Savour the Sandlings
A walk with local guides, Ivor & Jean Murrell, through the beauty that is the unique countryside of The Sandlings.
Starting from the famous ‘Westleton Beds’ of flint gravel, laid down 1.85 million years ago, then across Common and Heath and through Forest. Might we see the Silver Studded Blue butterfly or one of the UK’s rare birds, the Dartford Warbler?
After a two-hour walk we arrive at Potton Hall for refreshments, when we can listen to writing about the area. Walk guide and published poet, Ivor Murrell, will read his poetry. We shall be at the Hall about 45 minutes.
The walk back to the car will take about 50 minutes.
£5 for members and £6 for non-members.
This walk is not suitable for wheelchairs, there are a few short but steep inclines, one set of steps, but no stiles. It will require sturdy footwear and a reasonable degree of fitness.
There is no public toilet in Westleton, and none on the two-hour walk to Potton Hall. There are toilets at the Hall.
Sadly no dogs.
The walk is along uneven ground and sturdy shoes are essential.
