Ending on a high note!
The Sandlings Summer Sculpture Show enjoyed a rather special ending to our 2024 residency at Potton Hall. Most of the exhibiting artists were able to come to the ‘uninstall celebrations’, but we were also joined by a large number of friends and members of the public who were attracted by an additional element to the day’s activities – namely, a performance by Halesworth’s Harmony Choir under the baton of Janet Koralambe.
Two things made for a rather unique performance by the choir. Firstly, that Janet had very deftly chosen music which chimed well with the works on display; and secondly that both choir and audience moved around the exhibition site to highlight a selection of the works still on display. This made for a harmonious mix of sight and sound as the audience walked with the choir to each new location.
We also started with a reading, by Lynne Nesbit, of one of the poems from our collaboration with the Suffolk Poetry Society back in August. She chose a poem by Jeremy Solnick (of SPS) dedicated to the “unsung soldiers of the pen”. It so happened that this chimed in rather well with the way in which the choir’s joyful harmonies appeared to shield our gathering from the full effects of passing rain clouds. As with poetry, perhaps song also has the power to change events!
Everyone present then gathered in Potton Hall’s Black Barn Studio to share a glass of bubbly and nibbles which also gave us the opportunity to introduce the artists present to the wider audience attending the event. It also may have had a beneficial effect in that we made a couple more last minute sales on the day!
Our thanks to Potton Hall for their on-going support for our venture. We look forward to the possibility of continuing our working relationship over the coming years. Keep an eye on our website for further news on this, as well as on our other ventures as we move into 2025.
