Pakefield Singers
Pakefield Singers is pleased to present this fundraising concert and is proud to be associated with this endeavour which aims to raise a statue of the composer opposite his boyhood home in Lowestoft, facing the Sea which inspired much of his music.
The programme is a celebration of Lowestoft born composer Benjamin Britten, with his popular A Ceremony of Carols, taking centre stage. The work of three other composers living locally is also acknowledged including Alexander Campkin.
Sandwiched between the carols is Zeb Soanes reads his heart-warming story of ‘Gaspard’s Christmas’ with a carol by Jonathan Dove and live illustration by James Mayhew. There will be a chance to win James’ beautiful artwork in the interval raffle.
Proceeds from the concert will go to the Britten as a Boy statue fund. Benjamin Britten is Lowestoft’s most accomplished son. Born in 1913, he showed musical talent at an early age and went on to become a central figure of 20th-century British music as an outstanding composer, conductor, and pianist. The statue by sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley, depicts Britten as a child and will be placed, facing out to sea, between his childhood home and the promenade.
