Our first Two Rivers Book Festival, running from 16th to 30th June 2019, centres around the appreciation of books, from how they’re made to how they get to you. We are lucky to have a number of independent bookshops, second-hand bookshops and libraries in our locality, and we want to celebrate their important work.
Our programme of events is supported by our distinguished patron, Liz Calder. She has been at the forefront of British publishing for over 40 years, including as a judge for the Booker prize.
Liz Calder will be chairing two conversations looking at threats and opportunities in publishing, one of which is in collaboration with the Southwold Arts Festival. We are screening The Bookshop film in Halesworth and Southwold. Our workshops actively explore book-binding, letterpress printing, and folded book art. The four independent bookshops in our area will have special events during the fortnight of the festival (some listed on the Associated Events page). Two of our programme of walks have a booky air to them – Flower Fairies and Uncovering Doggerland. We have assembled comprehensive directories of independent bookshops – those selling new books and those selling second-hand – and of libraries.
And to round off the festival there’s a weekend of book-themed events, as well as food and drink, at the Low House in Laxfield – see Associated Events
